Dr. Amy Maher

Bay Area Pain and Wellness center welcomes Dr. Amy Maher to our Capitola Practice. Dr. Maher attended Middlebury College in Vermont completing her bachelor’s degree in chemistry. She received her MD from Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon in 2002. She continued on to an internship at Virginia Mason Medical Center and completed her anesthesia residency at UCSF. She obtained her fellowship in pain management at University of New Mexico, Albuquerque and went on to spend time as a clinical instructor for the UCSF Department of Anesthesia.

Dr. Maher performs interventional procedures to include epidural steroid injections, large peripheral joint injections, medial branch blocks, radiofrequency ablations and sympathetic nerve blocks. She has an interest in whole body pain, including fibromyalgia, and has spent the last decade focusing on this issue. Most recently, her academic endeavors compliment her scholarly achievements with studies in complimentary care. Dr. Maher is a certified GAPS practitioner using nutrition and lifestyle to support optimal health. She utilizes her knowledge of cleansing the body and building a healthy gut as a guide for those suffering from chronic pain and other ailments. She blends the best of western medicine with alternative care to support healing and wellbeing in each person. She and her family look forward to their return to California and becoming part of the SC community.
